Working after the age of retirement is always difficult but a 98-year-old Chicago man is still working 7 days a week. It has also reiterated people’s belief in the old saying – Age is merely a number!

Joe Grier was born in Atlanta in 1925. He served in the armed forces in the 1940s. He turned 98 years old on May 9th and is still working seven days a week at Victory, one of The Planter Companies in the North Austin neighborhood.

Even during the pandemic, he continued to visit the Victory’s plant to teach new employees. He’s also been with the company since some of the machinery has been upgraded several times.

In his interview with Fox 32, Grier expressed his happiness and connection to his work, attributing his longevity to a positive attitude.

Joe Grier said, “It makes me feel good about working. I’m able to associate myself with things that I’ve associated myself with for so long. It’s a habit.”

He also expressed “The secret to a long life is controlling [his] own thinking, before sharing the positive perspective that he has on everyday problems that he’s faced.”

“It’s how you look at them and deal with them that makes them no longer a problem,” he explained.

“Perhaps it’s because of my long years of living and the things I’ve seen that most things are funny,” he added.
