
According to media reports, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will ask its employees to come back to office by 2021-end with majority of them likely to get both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan said to media “We expect that sometime towards the end of the calendar year or early next year, and depending on how this third wave turns out, we will get back to 70-80 per cent (of the people) in the office.”
Almost half of India is vaccinated, companies are trying to bring employees back to office but it’s not going to be like earlier 9 am to 5 pm, and 5 days a week office. Companies are adopting a hybrid workplace model, a mix of work from home or, anywhere and 2-3 days’ work in the office with the flexibility of working hours and days.
The top reason people feel encouraged to return to a physical workplace is in-person collaboration. According to LinkedIn’s latest Workforce Confidence survey. 63% of respondents said that is motivating them to get back onsite now that pandemic-related restrictions are easing.
62% of respondents said Collaboration is closely followed by socializing with colleagues and clients. Nearly half also say they are encouraged by the ability to do focused work, enjoying workplace perks, and advancing in one’s career. Only 25% of respondents say that dressing up for work is a motivator.
According to a BBC report, around 90% of the company’s staff in India have received at least one dose of the vaccine so far.
N G Subramaniam, Chief Operating Officer, TCS also told to media that it’s time to replenish the social capital an office environment fosters.
“The overarching feedback we’ve got is that about 50% of the people feel they can come to work,” Subramaniam said. Currently, 90% of the TCS workforce is working from Home.
