Amazon India has set no retirement age for its employees

Joining the Amazon India is certainly not easy, candidates go through up to 12 rounds of screening. However, the silver lining is that, once in, the candidate can stay on for as long as he/she likes, or so it seems, because unlike most organizations, which retire their employees at 58 or 60 years of age, Amazon India has set no retirement age for its employees.

Amazon India has some interesting initiatives on diversity and inclusion.

Amazon has always been committed to diversity and inclusion and hires employees from all backgrounds to join the teams, and encourage them to bring their authentic, original, and best selves to work. Over the years, Amazon India has curated several initiatives to encourage and empower women employees across its businesses.

Amazon India announced the launch of ‘rekindle 2.0’, an initiative designed to help women coming back from extended breaks, resume and rebuild their corporate careers. The Rekindle 2.0 is designed as a launchpad for women who have had an extended absence from work.

Initiated as a pilot in 2016, the program has been relaunched with new features and benefits including ‘Structured onboarding, focused mentoring, flexible work options and on-the-job learning that will help women integrate into the workplace more smoothly.

“As part of the program, women candidates will have access to flexible work options including work from home, and flexible shift options depending on the role.”

The program is being launched across a variety of tech and non-tech roles including working on live projects across different functional areas.

To make the process smooth, Amazon India will put together peer learning circles to help women with specific skill gaps. To help women cope with work and gradually get back into corporate culture, responsibilities will be given in stages. Once they have joined, a rekindle orientation will help get them acquainted with Amazon’s culture.

A minimum of 12 months of career break will be considered for women to be a part of this initiative. They will be hired based on their previous experience and what role will be best suited for them.
