Government of India to hike confinement expenses payable under ESIC scheme to Rs 7,500
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has decided to boost the monetary grant paid to a pregnant insured woman or an insured person for his wife under ESIC’s health insurance scheme by Rs 2,500 to Rs 7,500 just in case they can not avail maternity services in ESIC dispensaries.
Since 2012, Monetary grant paid to pregnant women is Rs 5,000, and earlier to 2012 it was Rs. 2,500 in case they go for delivery in dispensaries and hospitals not registered by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation.
“In the Employees’ State Insurance (Central) Rules, 1950, in rule 56-A, for the words ‘rupees five thousand’, the words ‘rupees seven thousand five hundred’ shall be substituted,” the ministry of labour and employment said in a very notification within the official gazette.
According to the draft notification, stakeholders have been given 30 days’ time for providing their feedback on the proposal to hike maternity benefit under the ESI Scheme run by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Thereafter, the government would consider the feedback and make the final call.
The 56-A rule, in its current form, entitles an insured woman and an somebody in respect of his wife to urge a sum of Rs 5,000 per case as medical bonus on account of confinement expenses, providing the confinement occurs at an area where necessary medical facilities under the ESIC don’t seem to be available.
The ESIC Board had given its approval to reinforce the limit in its meeting in February this year.
