
According to several media reports the top two leading IT firms Google and Microsoft lay off hundreds of roles.
Google, led by Sundar Pichai laid off around 100 employees in its cloud unit last week. These cuts impacted sales, consulting, marketing, operations, and engineering departments, according to a CNBC report.
A Google spokesperson said that the recent layoffs are part of a larger strategy to align their workforce with changing customer needs and future opportunities.
On the other hand, as reported by Business Insider, Microsoft is cutting hundreds of jobs at its Azure cloud unit. The decision to reduce the workforce is expected to be part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to streamline its operations.
A Microsoft spokesperson said, “Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business.”

“We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners,” a Microsoft added.
So far in 2024, there have been 592 layoffs at tech companies with 143,966 people impacted (923 people per day).
