Barclays Group appoints C.S. Venkatakrishnan (Venkat) as Chief Executive Officer, effective from November 2021.
Announcing his appointment as Group CEO of Barclays, Venkat wrote on social media, “I am honoured to have taken over as CEO of Barclays. I want to start by acknowledging the tremendous job Jes Staley did in transforming the organization and the hard work of all my colleagues,”
“Their commitment means that today I am leading a global bank that is growing from a position of financial strength. Our strategy is the right one, combining a leading international corporate and investment banking business, a strong UK and US consumer franchise, and a growing payments business,” he said
“We will continue the development of these businesses so that we remain highly competitive – for our customers, our clients, and our shareholders,” he added
He further said, “I have been at Barclays for nearly six years. In that time, I have been able to learn how the bank operates from my roles leading Risk and then Global Markets, and as a member of the Executive Committee. We are in great shape, and we have the right plan to deliver secure, consistent growth. I hope to share Barclays updates through LinkedIn along the way.”
Prior to this, Venkat was associated as Head of Global Markets, Co-President of Barclays Bank PLC (BBPLC), and a member of the Group Executive Committee of Barclays.
He has also served as Chief Risk Officer at Barclays. Venkat is the executive sponsor for Embrace, the global multi-cultural network at Barclays.
Before joining Barclays in 2016, Venkat worked at JP Morgan Chase from 1994, holding senior roles in Asset Management, Investment Banking, and in Risk.
