SEZ rules allow WFH to all ITITes December 31, 2023
Earlier in July, it was reported that WFH is allowed for a maximum period of one year in a special economic zone unit and can be extended to 50 percent of total employees, including contractual employees.

The government has allowed information technology (IT) firms operating in special economic zones (SEZs) to permit 100 per cent work from home (WFH) or any place outside such zones till December 31, 2023.

The government permitted the Work From Home (WFH) options under certain conditions on Thursday, December 8.

The commerce ministry said in a notification, “A unit may permit its employees to work from home or from any place outside the SEZ.”

According to the notification of the commerce ministry, employees covered in the decision include those who are temporarily incapacitated, travelling, and working offsite.

Laptops, desktops, or other equipment can be provided to employees for WFH, the notification added.

The notification added that the units are not required to submit lists of employees working from home. However, units have to only maintain the lists of employees who are allowed to follow WFH or from any place outside SEZs. The list will have to be submitted to the development commissioner whenever required.

During this process, the units located in the SEZs that would be allowing work from home have to inform the development commissioner regarding the same by January 31, 2023.
