Is company's new strategy allowing married couples at workplace
Now, companies are allowing the working of married couples in the same company but at times they are permitted to work in different departments.

Most companies have policies that discourage or forbid the working of married couples, particularly in the same department.

Now, companies are allowing the working of married couples in the same company but at times they are permitted to work in different departments.

An example of this is India’s largest producer of aluminium and value-added aluminium products, Vedanta Aluminium the company had introduced the ‘Spouse Recruitment policy’.

The policy aims to provide employees’ spouses with meaningful career opportunities in the company. Additionally, it deepens the talent pool and will help families stay together. The policy was implemented in 2015.

The company has understood by implementing the policy that families are an irreplaceable support system, and for the employees’ well-being, families must stay together.

According to the reports of the moneycontrol, The Public sector undertakings Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, NTPC and Indian Oil Corporation allow and facilitate the marriage of employees.

Additionally, the money control reports further suggested that the two PSU’s ONGC introduced its marriage service portal in 2015 and NTPC, the ‘Parinay’ portal started in 2012. These are helping the current employees and former employees find partners for their children and siblings.

Allowing married couples in the same organization will benefit the organization as the employees generally marry partners with similar educational and professional backgrounds. This will help to get talent into the organization for similar openings.

Additionally, there are possibilities in India when the female workforce relocates to a different location post marriage allowing such policies will help in retention.

However, this will help the organization in retention to a limited extent. Since it has a very minor contribution to the overall retention rate. The policy is also not much popular and only very few companies allow and have adopted the policy of hiring married couples.
