In a surprising turn of events, Wipro Limited—one of India’s leading information technology and consulting companies—has revoked job offers extended to freshers after an agonizing wait of nearly 30 months.
Wipro Hiring: The Long Wait and Sudden Reversal
In an email sent to the affected candidates, Wipro stated, “As communicated to you earlier… successful completion of the pre-skilling training is a pre-requisite for onboarding.”
Almost two and a half years ago, Wipro extended job offers to a cohort of fresh graduates. These young professionals eagerly awaited their entry into the corporate world, hoping to contribute their skills and energy to the company.
However, Wipro recently sent emails to these candidates, informing them that their offer letters were being rescinded. The reason cited was the failure of some candidates to meet the eligibility criteria.
Specifically, these freshers had not successfully completed the mandatory pre-skilling training—a prerequisite for onboarding.

The Pre-Skilling Conundrum
Pre-skilling training is a common practice in the IT industry. It equips new hires with essential technical and domain-specific knowledge before they officially join the organization.
For Wipro, this training is evidently critical to ensuring that freshers are well-prepared for their roles.
The sudden withdrawal of offers has left many freshers disheartened.
Questions arise: Was there sufficient communication about the importance of pre-skilling during the 30-month waiting period?
Could there have been clearer guidelines?

In response to queries from TOI, Wipro explained, “As part of our routine onboarding process, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation to ensure that our next-gen associates are assigned to the right client projects and have the most up-to-date skillset to make an immediate impact.”
“We expect every entry-level employee to have a certain level of proficiency in their designated area of work, aligned with the requirements of the business and our clients,” the company added.
Wipro Revokes Offers: Impact on Freshers and Industry Reputation
For the affected freshers, this decision is more than just a professional setback—it’s an emotional blow. Many had put their career plans on hold, expecting to join Wipro. Now, they face uncertainty and disappointment.
Wipro’s move raises broader questions about transparency, communication, and empathy in the hiring process. While companies must maintain their standards, they also bear a responsibility toward the candidates they engage.
Ayush Srivastava, one of the candidates who received the rejection letter, expressed his disappointment on LinkedIn, writing, “I have been subjected to a prolonged waiting period and a rigorous 10-day training process only to have my employment prospects unceremoniously terminated.”
As the dust settles, freshers and industry observers alike await further clarity from Wipro.
