Universal Account Number (UAN) is a 12-digit unique number provided to each employee contributing to the Employees Provident Fund. This unique number is generated and assigned by the Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
The Ministry of Labour and Employment authenticates UAN under the directives of the Government of India. EPFO recently shared a tweet saying, “Know Your UAN in just these 4 steps at http://epfindia.gov.in“

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has warned its members not to share critical details about their EPF account, personal information, or OTP over the phone or online.
EPFO has announced this due to the growing threat of EPF-related OTP scams and other issues, also to minimize fraud.
EPF members should not share personal information like their Aadhaar card number, PAN, bank account number, or UAN number with anybody on WhatsApp or social media, according to the EPFO advice, because they risk losing their money.
EPFO has also been informed to be “ALERT Beware of Fraudsters!” to alert members to the danger they may be facing. People can contact through its official website, www.epfindia.gov.in, with any questions, suspicious calls or messages, or other issues.
