Infosys Delays Onboarding of 2022 Freshers; Sparks Outrage
As Infosys responds to inquiries and works to resolve this issue, the affected freshers remain hopeful for a swift resolution. The delay serves as a reminder of the broader challenges faced by the IT sector during these unprecedented times.

Software giant Infosys, known for its extensive campus recruitment drives, has recently faced delays in onboarding nearly 2,000 freshers who were offered positions in 2022.

These roles primarily include System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers.

The Pre-Training Sessions at Infosys

Infosys had initially handed out offer letters to these fresh graduates, but the onboarding process hit a snag. The affected candidates were required to complete two pre-training sessions, with the most recent session held on August 19.

However, many of them haven’t yet received the necessary credentials to access the online portal for these sessions. This delay has left aspiring engineers in agony, eagerly awaiting their official entry into the company.

One candidate said he received his pre-training date on July 1, with one Infosys Human Resource official saying the results would be announced within two days. The joining dates would be by September 2, which never materialised.

Requesting anonymity a candidate said, ““Their onboarding process was supposed to be that our training would take place in Mysore, and still, we trusted them and gave the pre-training exam.”

“We were just expecting the result, but what did they do? Again and again, sending pre-training emails,” they added.

Infosys Delayed Onboarding: Union Intervention

The situation has drawn attention from the Pune-based IT employee union, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). NITES has formally requested the Ministry of Labour & Employment to investigate Infosys for what they perceive as “exploitation and unprofessional treatment” of these freshers.

The delay has caused frustration among the selected candidates, some of whom have been waiting for more than two years since receiving their offer letters.

Industry-Wide Challenges

While Infosys grapples with this issue, it’s essential to recognize that the delay isn’t unique to the company. The entire IT industry faced headcount challenges due to fears of a recession in major markets and reduced discretionary spending.

Infosys itself witnessed a significant decline in fresh graduate hirings—from over 50,000 in FY22-23 to approximately 11,900 in FY23-24. The pandemic’s impact on business dynamics and market uncertainties played a role in this industry-wide trend.

Conclusion

As Infosys responds to inquiries and works to resolve this issue, the affected freshers remain hopeful for a swift resolution. The delay serves as a reminder of the broader challenges faced by the IT sector during these unprecedented times.

We await further updates from Infosys regarding the fate of these eager young professionals.
