Infosys executive Generative AI will have a direct impact on jobs
Satish H C, executive vice-president, and co-head (delivery), said, "The newer technologies like generative AI will bring in non-linearity in headcount growth and revenue in a few years."

An Indian multinational information technology company, Infosys executive said that Generative AI will have a direct impact on jobs.

As reported by the Business Standard reports, Satish H C, Executive Vice-President, and Co-head (delivery), said, “The newer technologies like generative AI (artificial intelligence) will bring in non-linearity in headcount growth and revenue in a few years.”

“Incrementally, in the long run, we will need less talent. Non-linearity will start to come in. It’ll still take three to five years”, Satish added.

“At Infosys, I don’t think we were digital-first… It took us a few years, but now that we have the hindsight of how we adapted to digital, we are adapting to AI much better and I think we are going AI first,” he said.

On the other hand, earlier, IBM India asserted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will generate more jobs than it displaces.

Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India/South Asia said, “I firmly believe AI will create more jobs than it destroys. People are usually very scared when imagining entirely new jobs.”

“For example, take the Internet, when the Internet came right, and you had web publishing and all things that were web-enabled, it led to job decline in certain sectors like newspaper printing,” Sandip Patel added.

Recently, companies have been upskilling their employees in Gen AI. However, Gen AI will create more jobs than it will displace.

According to a McKinsey report, less than 5% of jobs will be lost due to AI, and around 60% of jobs will require adaptation to AI, developing new skills to factor AI into the work, as the tasks we do will change.
