India Inc. seems to be ready for office work culture. Several companies in India are calling their all employees back to the office environment as the third wave subsides across the country.
Many of the sectors have already either switched or will restore 100% presence at corporate offices by the next few months. The auto and Pharma sectors are also focussing on getting people back to office.
Tata Motors corporate office, employees continue to show up two to three days a week. Mahindra Group has adopted a flexible work model as well, and it is up to the employees to decide whether they want to work from home or come to office.
Tata-owned Voltas, ICICI Bank, Parle Products, Sun Pharmaceutical, Godrej, Goldman Sachs, Dabur, Haier, Panasonic, Biocon, Dixon Technologies, and Motilal Oswal Financial Services have planned to reopen office for the employees
Flipkart, Tata Steel, PepsiCo, Axis Bank, RPG Group, Vedanta, and Puma said they will continue with flexible options.
Some of the start-ups and IT companies have also adopted a hybrid system for working in the organization. Meanwhile, the manufacturing industries have almost resumed work from office culture.
The employees still have a fear of getting sick as all offices start to resume but companies have also taken necessary measures to ensure the safety of the employees.
However, not all companies have resumed 100% office attendance. For them, they are still following flexible work practices to ensure smooth working within the organization.
While some IT firms like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, and Infosys are still working to end Work from Home provision and will ask the employees to return to office soon.
Wipro asked all managerial level employees, who have got both dozes of vaccination, to return to offices effective from March 3. Wipro is however going to begin with two-days a week work from office pattern. Meanwhile, the rest of the employees can continue to work from home.
TCS will also allow its employees to work on a hybrid model, which means that they can continue work from home and be in the office premises occasionally. It can be noted that after the emergence of the pandemic, the company had first spelled out its 25-by-25 strategy.
Under the company’s 25X5 vision for 2025, only 25% of its almost half-a-million global workforce will be in office locations at any point in time, with associates spending only 25% of their time in the office. And within project teams, only 25% of employees can be co-located.
Similarly, Infosys too will adopt hybrid model for its employees in the next couple of months. Cognizant is planning to open its offices for a voluntary return to premises by April.
Experts themselves are not very sure if the pandemic is over or not. Even if offices open, there could be a possibility that cafeterias in office may remain closed. Some offices may also opt for shifts and staggered timings.
