Microsoft to offer AI, Cloud Skills for 200,000 people Malaysia
The company is strengthening its partnership with the Government of Malaysia to establish a national AI Centre of Excellence and enhance the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities.

Microsoft, an American multinational corporation and technology company announced it will invest US$2.2 billion over the next four years to support Malaysia’s digital transformation.

The company’s investment includes: 

  • It will build a cloud and AI infrastructure in Malaysia.
  • Moreover, it will create AI skilling opportunities for an additional 200,000 people in Malaysia. 
  • The company is strengthening its partnership with the Government of Malaysia to establish a national AI Centre of Excellence and enhance the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities.
  • It will be supporting the growth of Malaysia’s developer community. 

“We are committed to supporting Malaysia’s AI transformation and ensuring it benefits all Malaysians,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft.

“Our investments in digital infrastructure and skilling will help Malaysian businesses, communities, and developers apply the latest technology to drive inclusive economic growth and innovation across the country”, Satya Nadella added. 

The investment demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to developing Malaysia as a hub for cloud computing and related advanced technologies, including generative AI. This will support the nation’s productivity, competitiveness, resilience, and economic growth. 

Recently in April, the company announced that it will invest US$1.7 billion over the next four years in new cloud and AI infrastructure in Indonesia.

The company will have AI skilling opportunities for 840,000 people and support for the nation’s growing developer community.

In February, the company announced a significant skilling initiative in India, aiming to equip 2 million people with AI skills by 2025.

The ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative is part of Microsoft’s Skills for Jobs program, which is designed to empower India’s workforce with future-ready skills. The initiative is part of Microsoft’s broader commitment to accelerate India’s AI transformation.

The skilling initiative is aligned with the company’s responsible AI principles, and training will be delivered in partnership with governments, nonprofit and corporate organizations, and communities. 

The ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA initiative will focus on three key areas to create AI fluency – Equipping India’s future workforce, upskilling government officials in AI and working to build the AI capability of nonprofit organizations.
