Multi-service platform Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is giving tough competition with Swiggy and Zomato.

What is ONDC?

Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), is a private non-profit Section company established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India to develop open e-commerce. This network has been around since September 2022.

However, this has started to gain popularity recently. As per reports, the network has surpassed the 10,000 daily order mark. It has more than 29,000 sellers that are selling 36 lakh plus products.

How is it a competition to Swiggy & Zomato?

It allows restaurants to sell their food directly to consumers. Additionally, it also allows delivery of groceries, home décor, cleaning essentials, etc. Much like Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, and Blinkit.

Additionally, The one major benefit consumers can take advantage of is using the platform to order food at much cheaper rates.

The findings have shown that the new e-commerce platform is the best choice for ordering food from most food chains and restaurants such as Domino’s, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, etc., as it offers the cheapest prices.

Ravi Sutanjani a Twitter user has also shared a tweet regarding the comparison, “I’ve shared earlier on offerings & if ONDC can create UPI like disruption for e-Commerce Today, let’s Uncover Practicality & After Effects”

Explaining the process another Twitter user shared a tweet saying, “India will have 42 crores of online buyers, by 2030. Companies like Amazon and Flipkart are monopolizing the business.”

“Indian govt launched ONDC – Open network for digital commerce. Everything about what ONDC is, and how it will change India forever”, the tweet added.

Now the question of How to use this ONDC.

Additionally, This is not a separate app that you can download from Play Store. Instead, ONDC works like UPI, which means it can be added to existing apps like–Paytm, PhonePe and Meesho, etc.
