The e-commerce technology company, Amazon has recently announced to sack more than 100 employees from its gaming division.
The company is ongoing efforts to restructure and streamline its operations resulting in layoffs. The company’s Games VP Christoph Hartmann wrote a memo to staff and informed them about the job cuts.
Christoph Hartmann wrote, “After evaluating our current projects against our long-term goals, the Games leadership team made the difficult decision to eliminate just over 100 roles across Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and in our San Diego studio, while also reassigning some employees to other projects that match our strategic focus.”
“Going forward, we will continue to invest in our internal development efforts, and our teams will continue to grow as the progress of our projects,” he added.
Additionally, the company has also promised to support the impacted employees. It will be offering affected employees severance pay, health insurance benefits, outplacement services, and paid time to conduct their job search.
Amazon to plans to cut Stock Awards
As per reports, Amazon will also reduce employee stock awards due to an uncertain economy. The company has also planned to change the company’s pay structure.
Amazon would reevaluate 2025 compensation in the first quarter of next year to “plan for stock variation”.
The company spokesperson said to Reuters, “We made the decision to reduce RSU (restricted stock units) awards in the final outlook year by a small amount (other years are not impacted).”
“The company was weighing the possibility of adjusting its compensation model in the future to be more balanced between base cash compensation and equity, after looking at the combination of an uncertain economy and its compensation budget,” the spokesperson added.
The company also earlier sacked 27000 employees. Initially, the company eliminated 18,000 positions (which was shared in January). Additionally, the company completed the second phase which led to additional 9,000 role reductions.
