Google & Amazon struggling to layoff offering upto 1 year salary so they leave voluntarily
Speaking about the geographical bifurcations in Europe mass layoffs are not possible due to labor protections. Prior the layoffs it is required for the consultations with employee interest groups.  

According to the reports of the Business Standard, Both the tech companies Google & Amazon have recently announced the sack of thousands of employees. However, the companies are offering salaries so they leave voluntarily.

Google

Speaking about the geographical bifurcations in Europe mass layoffs are not possible due to labor protections. Prior to the layoffs, it is required for consultations with employee interest groups.  

In Paris, the company has around 1,600 employees. The works council is in talks with the company over the following points:-

  • How many employees are included in the voluntary collective departure plan?
  • What types will be included in a voluntary collective departure plan? 

It was even earlier reported that 250 Google employees in Zurich walked out of their offices in protest and solidarity with those laid off by the company worldwide. 

The walkout at Google Zurich is a protest against these mass layoffs and a show of solidarity with colleagues whose employment has already been terminated. 

In France, Google is in discussion with the employees for voluntary departures. The company is also offering severance packages to employees to leave the company.

Additionally, the companies are in discussion in France and Germany. Google is currently in negotiations with works councils to speak with the management to discuss workforce issues. However, in the US the company can cut hundreds of jobs but they can’t cut thousands of jobs.

Amazon

Amazon is also reportedly trying to push some senior managers with 5-8 years of experience to resign by offering a one-year pay package and granting. 

Apart from this, Amazon has tried to get some senior managers to resign. The company is also providing the following benefits:

  • One year’s pay.
  • The company has granted leave to departing employees so they can grant shares over a pre-decided tenure and be paid out as bonuses.

In German, the company is laying off people still in their probationary periods. Additionally, the company is offering proposals for voluntary departures. 

In Luxembourg, the company is providing a month’s salary per year of service along with extra pay determined by national laws. 

Dunzo to Layoff 30% of employees

An Indian company that delivers groceries and essentials, fruits and vegetables, meat, pet supplies, food, and medicines in major cities, Dunzo has announced that it will cut its workforce by 30%.

This will be resulting in almost 300 layoffs. According to reports, Kabeer Biswas, Dunzo Founder, and CEO have informed the employees in a town-hall meeting about the latest round of layoffs.

The company has secured funding of $75 million through convertible notes. Earlier, In January, the company had sacked 3 percent of its workforce due to cost-cutting measures.

So far in 2023, there have been 757 layoffs at tech companies with 222,805 people impacted (2,297 people per day). In 2022, there were 1,535 layoffs at tech companies 241,176 were people impacted.
