
An American multinational technology conglomerate, Meta has cut over 11,000 jobs, which is nearly 13% of its workforce. It has been reported that the company sacked Indian employees two days after relocating to Canada.
Himanshu V was a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kharagpur). Himanshu V said that he had relocated to Canada for his new job with Meta. After two days he has been laid off by the company.
Himanshu V. shared the information through a LinkedIn Post, “I relocated to Canada to join #Meta, and 2 days after joining, my journey came to an end as I am impacted by the massive layoff.
“My heart goes out to everyone facing a difficult situation right now. What’s next for me? Honestly, I have no idea! I’m looking forward to whatever comes next. Let me know if you know of any position or hiring for a software engineer (Canada or India)”, the company added.
Another Indian Employee Manjur Ansari Software Engineer at Meta shared a post saying “I relocated to Canada to join #Meta and a couple of weeks after joining, my journey came to an end as I am impacted by the massive layoff.”
“Even though this was a short time at the company, everyone was extremely supportive and I had a great there. Wishing everyone else going through the same situation all the support they need. I’m really sad that this happened, but I’ll always have memories of the amazing people I met. Let me know if you know of any position or hiring for a software engineer (Canada or India)”, he added.
The worst lay-off in the global tech industry by Meta, which saw 11,000 employees being shown the door, has hit India teams too, albeit marginally, reliable sources said on Wednesday. Meta India team across verticals, although the exact number of affected employees could not be ascertained.
Meta currently owns some of the biggest platforms social media sites Facebook and Instagram as well as messaging platform Whatsapp.
