A global provider of Digital Business Transformation, Digital Engineering, and Information Technology (IT) outsourcing services, Virtusa Group has laid off employees and has forcefully asked them to resign from December 11.
The company has sacked hundreds of employees from Chennai and the UNITE has sought government intervention in this matter.
The employees from across India were flown to Chennai and were asked to take an exam in which the employees had to write a code on paper with a pen. “It is absurd to ask us to write a code on paper. Now when we are resisting this forced resignation, they are citing that we didn’t perform well in that exam,” the employee said.Â
UNITE states that the employees have been compelled to resign due to being black-marked in the National Skill Registry. According to employees if they didn’t resign employees will not be provided with the following:
- The HR told if the employees don’t resign they will not be provided an experience certificate.
- Additionally, the company will withhold three months’ salary.
UNITE, Union of IT & ITES Employees, said, “Hundreds of employees are being forced to resign by @virtusacorp at Chennai office. Forcing employees to resign is illegal and unethical. Stop illegal retrenchment. @labourministry upholds the law of land. Employees of Virtusa, ignore the HR’s hypocritical reasons.”
